2005
Oct 22-23 Glendo
Its getting near the end of the season and the
end of a decent year for Walleye Trackers. I
had the pleasure of meeting some great new people,
all of whom were great to have in the boat and
now just a lil better fishermen. I myself learned
a few valuable lessons as well as some valuable
new techniques.
The tourney run could have been better as Alissa
and I bombed it on our home lake where it should
have been locked. But I guess that's how it
goes. As for Glenn and I we did our usual this
year and as usual it just wasn't enough. This
will be the last year Glenn and I partner up
for the Wyoming Walleye Circuit. We may hit
one for good measure but we'll have to wait
and see. As well the Circuit is for sale and
depending on the outcome, IE: If it goes to
someone interested in growth and sportsmanship,
Rather then the all mighty $. I may show up
there again in the future. As for 2006 I am
strongly leaning towards the Lowrance Pro Team
Circuit. It seems the entry is a little closer
to affordable as well as the experience I could
gain from fishing the new waters.

Now lets get back to fishing. Sat was cold,
cold, cold, The wind almost made it unbearable
but the fish made it worth while. Nothing huge
but we got 6 between 15-17 which this year on
Glendo felt real good. Sun was 60 and Sunny
and the fish decided to make our last day on
Glendo for the year a blast. We kept 6 between
17-22 and probably caught 16-20 fish. We were
cranking off Indian point and caught every fish
off 1 lure, except 1 that is and as soon as
this monster cat was landed and the
Salmo Hornet it was caught on went
right back in the tackle box. Think he went
around ten and He's still there for the rest
of you Cat guys. All in all was a great time
reminiscent of the old Glendo with a good group
of keeper eyes and healthy fish.

CWA Glendo
Here it is all on the line. With Kevin and Alissa
sitting in 12th place overall in the CWA a decent
finish here gets us to the big Cabelas tourney.
With Glendo being Kevin's favorite lake this
ones gotta be in the bag Doesn't IT. Thought
it was. With good fish and quantities being
caught in previous weeks and 2 days of pre fishing
that gave us multiple spots to catch good weighers
I was as confident as I get. Then the tourney
started. Day 1 we spent drifting jigs in Bennet.
Pre fishing we were getting 16 to 21 inch fish.
After 3 hours and 1 18, We changed to cranks,
then to crawler harnesses, then to jigs, then
to lindy rigs, now I believe We'd had as good
of a chance of getting on them if I was dragging
dirty sox.
Day 1 we ended with 3.8 lbs and in 27th out
of 90. Still hope. Day 2 was Bennet, airport,
Bennett, Airport....Home. Plenty of fish but
not 1 over the 15 min. The sad Irony is the
overall 2nd place team fished near us weighing
5 fish a day and all we could do was watch.
Must have been using those sox. Finished in
the 50's and 18th overall for Colorado.
July 4th 2005
Sometimes the most enjoyable guided fishing
trips are free. For the past few years now we
have had the luxury of spending time with friends
and family at Glendo one of our favorite lakes.
This year new comers Kelly and Josh joined us
for a weekend of fried fish, long nights by
the camp fire and good old fun in the USA. I
had the pleasure of introducing Josh to his
1st Walleye, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc. etc. etc. Once
the 1st was boated Josh became Mister Walleye,
Reeling in 18 fish and 3 Wyoming limits.
We ate very well for the annual fish fry and
mom Kelly thanked us immensely as Josh has probably
never slept so well. Thanks for joining us guys
and we hope to see you again next year.
July 2nd
Paul & Jay
When I met these guys Friday night at Howard's
I knew I was in for a long day. Both were expert
trout fisherman from the state of Colorado and
brought their finest flies and spoons, confident
Wyoming Walleye were not nearly the challenge
as an old fat river trout. I think unfortunately
I proved them right. The day started casting
flies and a bubble over weeds in Airport.
1st I must clarify when asked what their goals
were that would send them home happy they stated
1st we want to try a few of our tactics and
use your boat to do it 2nd if that don't work
you put us on some fish and Jay stated clearly
I want something to put on my wall and Paul
being the big teddy bear along for the ride
says " I'm just happy to be here and if we catch
a fish I'll have a great story to take home
to my wife". Little odd but I'm usually game
for anything as long as we're clear on the goals.
So back to the flies and bubbles. SMACK " I
got a good one" yells Jay, "you don't catch
anything but little trout and Big Carp" responds
Paul. Sure enough a beautiful 8 lb carp. Jay
bull headed casts again, Paul laughs aloud and
I asked if we needed to keep him for that wall
hanger he was searching for. I think I upset
Jay a bit until I showed him the proper way
to dispense of a Wyoming carp.
We were all buddy's again after that. About
an hour later and five carp in carpy heaven
the guys were ready for me to take them walleye
fishing. Staying in line with the trout fishing
theme I properly showed them how to catch a
walleye with a spoon. Little did I know it would
be sooooo effective.
The guys were tired and ready to go by noon.
We boated well over 30 eyes with the biggest
being a nice 9.3 taken by Paul. Whom offered
it up to Jay for the wall but Jay turned him
down saying it wasn't the same. Paul smiled
and says "good I wanted to eat it anyway. In
my opinion I think Paul says that often. Sorry
Paul I just had to get one more in on yah :)
The guys took home 9 eyes ranging from 19 to
29.5. Not a bad days work and I couldn't have
had more fun with 2 professional comedians.
Thanks for the good time guys and we'll be seeing
you again in August.
June 26th
CWA McConnehey Point Tourney
I HAVE NEVER CAUGHT SO MANY FISH IN MY LIFE.....
Stripers, Wipers, White Bas I don't know what
they were but they weren't Walleye.. The bite
was a crank bite and that's where we can usually
excel but Not enough, We finished 71st out of
91.
Our Highlights were a nice 23 and 22 1\2 Walleye.
But on this lake full of monsters that will
only get you a long drive home. I was pulling
a Shad Rap #7 on a 3 way with a Mac Sugar Buns
up above and man did we slam fish. We barely
could get our lines set and about the time we
were releasing our 2nd pole we'd be pulling
in 2 more fish off 1 pole. What a blast. I was
very worn after the tourney, all said and done.
Say 15 walleyes, 60 Bass, and 10 cats all 5+lbs.
No $ but will be a good memory of a couple of
days I actually became tired of catching fish.
June 19th
WWC Boysen
Well me and good ol mom were headed off to fish
the lake I was raised on and the lake she taught
me to fish on. Gotta be a winning combination
right. Nope re fishing we located a river bed
that hadn't seen water in 5 years and was at
its deepest spot a good 4 foot. We hit it once
on Fri for 1 pass and came away with a 20 and
22 inch walleye. We figured as long as there
was no one else there come Saturday morning
the tourney was ours. We were the last team
to launch Sat and the 1st in our hole. Things
got exciting when Kevin hooked a beauty just
15 mins into the tourney. a nice 8 lb cat. we
fished it for 5 hours and have never been back.
Unable to pull any weighers we took a nasty
goose egg on day 1. Yuk! Day two we went to
the good old reliable spot and nailed 5 keepers
with the best being a 23 1/2. to little to late,
Seems to be the anthem for this year. Next week
McConehey and at least we'll get some bass :)
June 11th
FISH ON! Says Joe to Tom. And many times over.
These two gentlemen were a pleasure to meet
and gooood entertainment on a great lake with
good weather to boot. The really good fishing
on Glendo is coming on very quickly as the lake
is at a 4 year high and the temps are getting
good. If you got the free time get out there
and take advantage of it.
Our day started in airport with a good quantity
of smaller fish and ended in Muddy battling
wind and the occasional walleye. Both were very
eager to learn and I'm pretty positive they
have a few new tricks up their sleeves. At the
end of the day when limits were full I even
learned something new, An air horn is meant
to be pointed away from your face when blowing
otherwise you lose your listening abilities
for a bit. Thanks for the good time guys and
we look forward to seeing you again.
June 5th
Glendo WWC
I'm done predicting our future results of tourneys,
I have proven to my self that sometimes even
on lakes we know, fish don't always cooperate.
Day 1 was a complete disaster. It started off
when Kevin realized his boat was very very low
on oil, as boats were already launching and
the tourney was on the way. So we had 1 spot
to fish and we were going to die there......
and we did. After a day of good break offs and
cold wind and rain we weighed 1 walleye on our
premier lake.
Day 2 went much better as we were able to move
around and find the same fish we should have
been putting in the boat the day before. An
expensive lesson learned but guess that's why
we all do it, to get better and always learn
to be more prepared. Off to Boysen where who
knows what may happen.
May 22nd
CWA Point tourney Pueblo
Well Alissa and I were due and we got it done. After day 1 We were
sitting a comfortable 3rd place with 1st being 12.05 2nd being 12. and
us having 11.95. It doesn't get that close often. The lovely wife also
increased our purse by nailing a 3 1\2 pound walleye that cashed us a
big fish check. Being allowed 8 fish in the livewell we were in at
1:30 2 hours early with 8 18+ walleyes. Definitely our best day ever
on Pueblo.
Day two didn't fare nearly as well as we were only able to get 3
keepers finishing us at 11th overall. Fortunately Colorado pays daily
and we had our best run so far of the year. Next Kevin and Glen are
off to Glendo where pre fishing over memorial Day weekend was good
and we hope for some nice fish for the tourney.
May 14th
Keyhole WWC
We were back at it again and this tourney had 10 grand on line
for 1st place. Glen and I were ready for some big fish and big money.
And we got just that on day 1.
I am positive most fisherman have had the pleasure of fishing a hole
where the boat next to them is pounding fish and you cant even buy a
bite. Well we were there. Except the pack was so close together you
knew exactly who was using what and what they were doing precisely to
catch the fish. Yet we as well as many other teams in the middle of
the mix could not entice a single fish. So we moved and it almost paid
off. Glen staying true to form hammered a beast. It was right around 2
PM and we were both getting a bit antsy as the big goose egg became
more and more apparent. But good old Glen was going to be our saving
grace. So we thought. After a 20 min battle many close calls of losing
the line to the motor and the fish under the boat I had the pleasure
of netting a beauty of a 40 inch Northern Pike, We were both crushed
and after all was said and done we joined the other 17 teams with no
fish.
Next Alissa and I will be off to Pueblo, CO for their 2nd point
tourney. Pueblo is a tough lake that has an 18 in min and those fish
are real tough to come by. The last tourney an 18 and a 20 took Day 1
while three 18's took Day 2. I will be prefishing some in the morning
granted the truss plant allows me to sneak away.
Unfortunately of all of the CWA lakes this will be the greatest
challenge for us personally at the last tournament we caught plenty of
short fish and no weighers. But there's always a chance.
May 7th
Keyhole NEWWA
Of all the tournaments I fish Keyhole seems to be my personal
demise. After a couple of days prefishing with respectable weights and
good fish being caught somewhat regularly, We managed 1 20 inch
walleye on Day 1. Fortunately the North East Wyoming Walleye
Association has a very appealing format that pays 1st day results,
2nd day results and overall results. Day 2 was 50 MPH winds and heavy
rain. Which meant no tournament. Bummer but there's always the WWC next
weekend to look forward to.
May 1st
Sterling Resevoir CWA 1st point tourney
BRR, BRR, BRR. I dont know who talked me into fishing this early but BRR.
The tourney was almost a sucess. Day 1 was filled with some solid
bites and 1 weigher. In a tourney with seventy some boats and only
16 fish weighed thats not all that bad. BUT Kevin needs to pay a
little better attention to tourney hours as we were 5 mins late in
coming in which lost us half or 16 inchers weight and put us in
dead last with people with fish. Also people treble that bottom hook
on Crawler harnesses. Just do it save yourselves the heart ache.
Day 2 was a day of fish but none over the 15 in min. At least we were
able to gain some decent points and it looks promising for Kevin &
Alissa.
Well its off to Keyhole for the big chance at some BIG eyes
next week. Also this will be the 1st and only tourney Kevin will be
fishing with his dear mother. And mothers day is next week Carma?
I hope so.
April 17th:
1 day Colorado ice breaker.
Kevin got his cure for the 6 mth itch he'd been dying from. And good
ole Glenn got to watch. The fish seemed to be more concentrated in the
bay South of the Marina so thats where we began. The first potential
came an hour into the tourney. A nice solid hit on a storm thunder
crank. Being a little tense I of course let all that could go wrong go
wrong. After a nice hook set I firmy planted my rear into the bottom of
the boat barely maintaing my grip on the pole. And by the time I
composed myself #1 fish had found its way free.
The next couple of hours were fun in that we had 2 solid planer
draggers that were off by the time we'd removed the boards. but #4
Almost fish had to be the best. A solid snag that required Glenn to
stop the boat and bring the other 3 lines in. About the time the last
line was coming in she came alive. There is no better feeling in any
competitive fishing than when your snag wakes up. Being on the Storm
thunder crank I was confident of this hook set and All I did was
muscle this beauty in. When she was 6 ft off the boat she showed
herself. The biggest Gold toned Sucker mouthed Eye I could ever
hope 4. My heart broke. She went a good 15 lbs and I will promise you
other anglers she'll never reappear on another line. To complicate
the landing even more I snagged it very solidly in the rear so
imagine that battle.
So that was our morning and fortunately the afternoon did get a
little better when we boated a decent 19 incher for our first and
only tourney fish of the year. Not bad with the total fish for the
tourney being only 19 but we really had our opportunities.
The next is the Sterling point tourney the weekend of April 30th to
May 1st. Kevin and Alissa will be starting off their first tourney
together for the year and lets all pray its a good 1.

March 7th:
Glenn blew out the Cobwebbs this weekend. Get'n the old Faithful and
apperently new faithful on the water for the 1st time this year. Not the
1st time my counterpart found himself skunked after a hard couple of hours of dippin his noodle
in the lake and certainly wont be the last.
(Click photos to enlarge)
Luckily he brought along Brandon, Our prodigy whome
we hope may be twice the fishemen we are, (really thats not much).
Brandon roped in the 1st eye of the year as well as the 1st eye of his young life. A beautiful 17
incher that almost gave him his first swimming lesson. Good job Brandon! Brandon
nailed him on a
Smile blade trolling slow. Sure this kid's in
for a long frustrating life of chasing them eye's. I keep telling
Glenn teach him something easy like GOLF.

Feb 13th:
First trip of the year on the water, to make sure all was still working and
functioning properely and it was. It also served as a tool to get the butterflys out
and it did that as well.

Kevin's 1st fish of the year caught on a
Michigan stinger SKB - A nice 24 inch Healthy
female walleye. But Kevin's feats were dwarfed by his wifes 25 inch walleye
as well as 2 good 18's.
|
|

The fish were caught between 3 and 6 O'clock on Chatfield resevoir. Kevin will be
fishing all of the Colorado Walleye Association tournaments
with his lovely wife Alissa, the real fisherman in the family, so watch out Colorado.
