Keyhole WWC Kevin and Glenn May 12-13 35th of 67

Glenn and I decided to partner up again for another exciting tourney run in the WWC. After Our 2nd place finish just a week ago this should be an easy repeat. Our confidence level was high, the fish were where they were suppose to be and we knew what they wanted to eat, Easy huh!

Day one began very slowly, Lots of crappie (an indicator I should have
paid attention to and let play out) but anxious me said time to fly and we did. So we hopped off our spot that gave us a 2nd place win just a week ago to play with everyone else on the reef. To seal the deal of our ruin we came out of plane dropped our spinners in the water and 30 seconds
later I was reeling in an 8 lb walleye. Finally a change for the better right? No not actually. We fished the same spot for the rest of the afternoon
and all day Sunday and finished with that one fish. But check out the
great picture, Glenn and I are now celebrities.

Come to find out 1st, 2nd, and forth came from the point we gave up on. Apparently, as soon as old black beauty pulled up and left the point got hot. Figures, Oh well, it’s Keyhole.

Sterling Reservoir May 19-20th CWA 1ST points tourney 26th of 35

We didn’t catch a fish: We cranked, pulled harnesses and yes I even jigged (ick). Very frustrated over our performance and that’s all I got for today.

Glendo 2007 WWC June 2 & 3rd 2007

Glenn and I decided to fish our favorite lake and try our luck in the new WWC run by Rob Davis. Though we were on fish in our days of prefishing we couldn’t locate any big fish to go with our lil ones. We finished in 92nd of 103. Due to my inability to get it together on Glendo during a tournament, I think I’ll just stick to the guiding where we always get good fish. Must be a pressure thing J .

Greenbay, Wisconsin Cabelas NTC Kevin and Alissa 250/250 Please read on!

It’s the daddy of them all. This is what we tourney fish for and Alissa and I finally qualified THROUGH THE NEWWA. Arriving a week early it allowed me to see what big waters really all about. Prefishing was phenomenal. I had a solid bite back in the Fox River. Pulling Rip shad’s 100 Ft off the boat combining planers and lead out the back. Our fish were between 19-22 inches and plentiful. In the bay I found a solid bite about 10 miles out in 20 feet of water. We were pulling hand tied smile blades in gold and red scale. About 1.2 to 1.5. Nothing under 20 inches and our biggest at 25. And then there was the big fish spot. About 5 miles to the north of the smile blade bite on a transition from 12 ft to it 20ft. Using lead core and Grey Ghost and moon eyed minnow Rip Shad Magnums on a 3 way with a Michigan stinger above (boy/girl) cruising between 2.2 and 2.8 We had the pattern. My 2nd day prefishing 1st pass I pulled a 26 ½. Due to another boat being nearby I boogied. I hit it again with Alissa fresh from the airport on Thursday. Our 1st pass we doubled up a 26 and a 24. Our next pass, a 27. We boogied again with a plan of hitting it one more time on Fri before the rules meeting. That’s where our troubles began. 1st I lost my transducer to my Lowrance thanks to some big water waves and me traveling a tad bit to fast for conditions.

But it got 100 times worse. That evening laying under the boat adding the new transducer, an angler from Michigan came up and as attempting to help me, He informed me he had just come from the rules meeting. I was dumbfounded. It was Thursday why would they hold the meeting a day early. So I immediately contacted a rep from Cabelas and guess what. It’s a Friday and Saturday tourney. We just missed the mandatory rules meeting. And there is no flexibility with that rule. We were out of the tourney. Spectators. We were both pretty frustrated at myself, this was a major bonehead. I will say Alissa handled it very well. I know she was angry but she took it easy on me. Fri we decided to see how we would have done so we put on around 10. Headed out to the smile blade spot and just slaughtered 20-23 inch fish. We figured we could have weighed 19-21 lbs on the 1st day. Sat we were out with the crowd and watched the launch. Afterward we headed out to the big fish spot. Our 1st fish was 28 inches; our next was a 26, the 24 ½, then nothing for an hour straight. So we packed up and headed out to the smile blade spot. We were back at catching 20 inch fish one after another. We had a couple of 22-inch fish and a couple of 23-inch fish. We figured day two would have weighed us out with 29 to 32 lbs. Ending somewhere in the 50 lbs area. Easily top 20. I went back to Colorado with my tail tucked as far between my legs as it could go. Pretty humiliating experience. Fortunately with our 2nd place finish through the NEWWA we’ll get another chance next year and rumor has it it’s going to be somewhere on the Missouri River. I look so forward to a little redemption.

McConehey CWA Kevin and Alissa. June 23rd-24th 36th of 60

CWA always puts on a good tourney and McConehey is usually pretty generous with giving us a few nice fish to play tug with. Prefishing I was unable to locate the good crank bite, so I switched up tactics Sat morning. We were dragging home tied smile blades on a crawler harness, sometimes using a full worm, sometimes using 2 leeches. Though we had limited success {3 keepers} it wasn’t the bite we would need to stay competitive. We finished in 36-60. And were very disappointed when e found out it was a crank bite in the shallows. Oh well live and learn, Guess that’s why its not called catching.

McConehey late CWA Kevin and Alissa Aug 21-22 22nd of 40

We smoked um, Never fished the big Mac this late in the year and boy was it a blast. Crank baits were the ticket. Well not the walleye ticket, actually had it been a cat tourney we’d have been professionals out there. We couldn’t seem to get below the cats to the walleye’s. We caught probably 50 between 5 lbs up to 15 lbs. Oh well the guys at the truss plant had plenty of cats to take home to there families. We finished up 22-40, which means we have to look forward to all the great tourneys next year. We had a great start to the year, must have used all our good mojo, and definitely fizzled after that. Cant complain, instead of breaking rods and cursing fish I could have been banging my head on the wall at work and cursing a lot more. Life’s good J .

May 5th and 6th 2007
NEWWA Keyhole

BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

The good news
You can catch carp on cranks at Keyhole: There's still a chance at big fish and the tournament pays both daily and overall so there could be a chance to atleast cash a small check, Plus they have 5 guaranteed spots to Cabelas for the top 5 overall.
http://www.keyholewalleye.net/tournaments.html

The Bad news:
I'm the type of idiot who believes in trends, meaning if the tournament was one in 1 place in the last three years its going to be won there again right, Even if that means it never stops raining for 2 days straight, day one winds exceed 30 mph and day 2 winds exceed 50 mph and that winning spot is smack dab in the middle of the lake. I actually wore my life vest while fishing. more bad news only 9 fish were caught between 40 some odd people on both days, more bad news I have a nice new gash in the side of the black beauty, more bad news my remote control for my auto pilot went to shit, it actually got too wet, Ok I am digging a lil deep there I had to use my foot control. Guess I'm spoiled. More bad news I am still shaking from the freaking cold of last weekend, and the worst news of all.............I'm going back Thursday to do it again.

The great news.
The roll continues: Big Fish on day 2, 1st place on day 2, 2nd place overall and a lock on Cabelas next year. This early that's pretty freaking exciting, Plus about 2100 and change. What a great year so far a 1st and a 2nd going to be real tough to improve on those 2 tourneys, Being the tough Bite it was here were the top 5 teams

1st
Swim & Mason 6.9 lbs
2nd
Werre & Williamson 6.06
3rd
Rudland Taylor 4.68
4th
Evenson & Evenson 3.00
5h
Heagney & Towers 2.96

It will be off to Keyhole again next week for hopefully some beautiful weather. A few fish would be nice but If your out there and see me grinning it will be the sun over head, dry clothes and minimal wind that will be making my day.

April 29th 2007
CWA Cherry Creek Icebreaker

Cherry Creek has a tendency to be a tough bite this early in the year. Some big fish are usually caught but very few total. Because of the 18 inch minimum fish can be very hard to come bye. This was Alissa and I's 1st real outing of the year together. Though were married that first time getting the boat we can be pretty fun and also at times pretty stressful if I'm not keeping her over fish and running the net like a good husband. Fortunately for me I was able to do exactly that. We caught about 8 fish over the 18 inch limit. Our largest was 19.5 and looked like a football. We focused on areas in the lake I had previous success in years past and hammered the fish pulling Rapala Crank Baits. When the fish are hitting them its always a fun time they almost yank the pole holders out of the boat. After a long day and a good sun burn we ended with 12.2 lbs. Enough for a 1st place win. What a great start. Next week I am off to fish the NEWWA Keyhole tourney. Its a tough bite but a great shot at big fish and a chance to qualify for the Cabelas NTC.

April 20th 2007

Its That time again. We've been fortunate enough to have already taken a couple of past friends out on different trips and although it wasn't hot n heavy we had some fun and caught some decent fish.

2006 wrapped up to be a good tournament year. We will be attending the Cabelas National team tournament this year in Greenbay and if all goes well we'll represent Colorado and Wyoming the best way possible --By winning. I'll keep you posted on our tournament efforts as well as the new friends we make guiding along the way.

Our 1st tourney will be on Cherry Creek Reservoir in Denver Colorado. Bronco Fanfare on Saturday, Rockies game Saturday night and some big Fish to be caught Sunday, cant ask for a better weekend. Take a look at the Tourney schedule for 2007 and if you are attending one of these let me know I will be happy to let you know what the fish may be doing and where I will be starting tourney morning.
